SuG

SuG (typeset as SuG captioned with Heavy Positive Rock) are an independent Japanese rock band, formed in 2006. They are also part of the visual kei movement of Japan. The band has released one EP and several singles, and as of 2008, the band is signed to "Indie PSC", a subdivision of PS Company.

History

SuG was formed in October 2006 by Takeru, Masato and Yuji who had all been members of another band called Travel, and Shouta. The drummer Mitsuru then joined in November of the same year.

Shouta left the band in February and was replaced by Chiyu on bass. Their first release was "7th Breeze" on the compilation album Cannonball Vol. 03. The band signed to to the visual-kei label PS Company and in August released their first single, "Scheat".

SuG have recently released an EP entitled Love Scream Party. To promote their music outside of Japan, SuG performed at "J-Rock Invasion" in Germany alongside Kagrra, Kra, Alice Nine and Screw who are also signed to CLJ Records, a German label.

Name

The name "SuG" is derived from the transliteration of the English word "thug", written in Japanese as (サグ, Sagu^?). The name is then simplified to the slightly more romantic "Sug".

Floppy

PROFILE

FLOPPY is a band consisting of Kobayashi Sharaku (The singer of metronome) and Hiromu Toda (The singer of Shinjuku Gewalt).
They make electronic music, which sounds a bit more like Shinjuku Gewalt than metronome.
They mainly use their machintoshes, but Toda also plays on a synthesizer.
To heighten the feeling of electronic game music, Sharaku sings in a modified Famicom Controller.

BIOGRAPHY

The birth of FLOPPY was sometime in the late summer/autumn of 2004. The line-up consists of Sharaku Kobayashi (Voice, Macintosh) and Hiromu Toda (Synthesizer, Macintosh), with Fukuda Fukusuke as support guitarist from time to time.

The band plays 'Asian chip pop' and sounds like a crossbreed between Shinjuku Gewalt and metronome.
On stage they have white THE BUGGLES (a band from the 80's) inspired shirts with a large F on it and futuristic looking sunglasses.

In January 2005 the band released the self-titled mini-album FLOPPY, consisting of 9 songs.
Later that year, they also released the maxi-single FLOPPY no suteki consisting of an additional 3 songs.

On December 24th, Christmas eve, they had their very first one-man show. On the same night they sold an untitled maxi-single, which contained 3 cover-songs.

FLOPPY's popularity has grown big throughout 2005, and it seems they are going steadily into the next year.

LM.C

LM.C (Lovely-Mocochang.com) is a Japanese band, playing a hybrid of rock and electronic pop, that consists of two members.

History

LM.C was founded by Maya, a support guitarist for musician Miyavi. While still with Miyavi, Maya and other support members also played live shows as LM.C. Later they were joined by Aiji of Pierrot.

After Maya quit Miyavi's band and Aiji's band Pierrot disbanded, LM.C made their major label debut in October 2006, releasing two singles, "Trailers (Gold)" and "Trailers (Silver)."

As 2007 began, the group came out with a third single, "Oh My Juliet.", which was the 2nd ending theme for the Red Garden anime. On March 7, they released their first EP, "Glitter Loud Box."

They released their fourth single, "Boys & Girls" in June of 2007, featured as the opening theme for the anime Reborn!

Their fifth single, "Liar Liar/Sentimental Piggy Romance," saw an October 2007 release, while their sixth single, "Bell the Cat", was released in December of the same year.

In 2008, LM.C released "John", in the winter, and "88", another opening theme for the Reborn! anime, in the summer. LM.C then debuted in North America, performing at Anime Expo's "Battle of the Bands" on 3 July 2008, followed by a concert at the Crash Mansion in Los Angeles, California on 5 July.

Gilgamesh

History

2003-2006: Formation
Formed in 2003 in Chiba, Shū and Nii had been friends since elementary school, the earliest incarnation of the band made its first performance while the members were still in high school. Girugamesh began playing gigs with their current lineup in 2004, until they were signed to record label Gaina-Japan. Their first major single, Kaisen Sengen was ranked #10 on the Oricon Indies chart.
In 2005, Girugamesh embarked on a nation-wide tour, after which they released their first live DVD, featuring footage from the tour, and after more touring, released an EP, Goku - Shohankei Enban.
In 2007, Girugamesh was signed to the European label Gan-Shin, making them one of the select Japanese rock groups to be distributed outside of Japan. The band then was part of a 9-band Japanese rock festival in Los Angeles, California called "J-Rock Revolution". They were part of the second night alongside Merry, D'espairsRay, and Mucc. Around the time of J-Rock Revolution, some of the performing bands released material on iTunes, including Girugamesh, making them one of the few Japanese rock artists to be available on the online music store. On this, Ryo has commented that "if you really like the band after the initial listen, you will buy the original CD."

2007-present: Girugamesh and international success
In the summer of 2007, Girugamesh released an EP entitled Reason of Crying, and in December released their eponymous album, Girugamesh.

In 2008, insupport of Girugamesh, the band toured in both Japan and Europe, under the tour title "Stupid Tour '08". The Japanese leg had Girugamesh performing throughout Japan, and later in January, the band toured Europe for the first time, visiting Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Finland. Following their European tour, Girugamesh continued the "Stupid Tour '08 in Japan". In March, Girugamesh returned to touring visiting venues all over Japan including Okinawa.
Following a performance at Wacken Open Air, a support tour for Girugamesh will occur, entitled "Shining Tour '08". The first performances will endure through July, visiting Osaka and Nagoya, with one finale performance in August at the Liquidroom in Tokyo. Concerts in July will feature second acts, including Gelugugu, Tr. Dan, Sel'm, Dogma, and Deathgaze, while the tour finale show will be a one-man performance, with only Girugamesh.
In July 2008, an English version of their website was activated; shortly after this, the band announced they would release their debut American album, with Girugamesh being sold exclusively through Hot Topic stores. The band also announced the release of their next full-length album, title Music, to be released on 5 November 2008.

YMCK

YMCK is the 8bit pop unit formed by 3 persons. The most prominent feature of the band is the 8bit sound that reminds people old game consoles, which attracts the enthusiastic support from wide range of generations. The 1st album "Family music" released in 2004 made a big hit and made their popularity unassailable. Their unique style of live performances using 8bit pixel animation is also highly acclaimed. Their activities are not limited in Japan but also made successes in performing at international music festivals around the world: in Sweden, Netherlands, New York, Washington DC, Thailand, Korea and Taiwan, and CDs are released in United States, Thailand, and South Korea. Besides those things above, YMCK does a wide range of activities, such as remix works, video game sound tracks, DJ performances, development of 8bit sound plug-in software etc.
